One Need Not Be A Chamber to Be Haunted

One need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.
Far safer, of a midnight meeting
External ghost,
Than an interior confronting
That whiter host.
Far safer through an Abbey gallop,
The stones achase,
Than, moonless, one's own self encounter
In lonesome place.
Ourself, behind ourself concealed,
Should startle most;
Assassin, hid in our apartment,
Be horror's least.
The prudent carries a revolver,
He bolts the door,
O'erlooking a superior spectre
More near.

We'll Burn Like Falling Stars Tonight

Today was a very... difficult day. It was one of those days where almost everything you go to do ends disasterously, and just when you're feeling that your day is finally improving, something else terrible happens. I won't go into all the gory details, but suffice it to say that I got less than five hours of sleep, then overslept, got locked out of my room, and got blisters from my sandals. The only thing that went remotely right about my day was this dress: Spotted Moth's Pumpkin Pie Dress. Such an appropriate name, no? It is almost certainly my new favorite, for a number of reasons. First, it's such a warm and seasonal color (I really adore wearing warm fall colors in autumn). It's also made of a lovely light chiffon, so it rippled ever so appealingly in the light breeze today. I plan to wear it quite a bit as we enter November, particularly on cooler days when I plan to pair it with a pair of chunky tights.

She Has a Creepy Little Cat and a Creepy Little Bat

HALLOWEEN IS THREE DAYS AWAY. I always get really into the October mood, so this is just one of my creepy Halloween outfits for the week. (I've got one for tomorrow too.) I'm even listening to my Halloween mix- the only time of the year that Marilyn Manson comes anywhere near my iTunes. Walking on Air by Kerli is my ultimate creepy song. Just go and listen to it. It's Halloween in song form. Literally.

So I got all these fun things in the mail yesterday from Urban. The shirt is from their Halloween shop, and it's not really usually my style (ill-fitting and loose) but I think you can get away with things like that when there's something great on the shirt- i.e. the ribcage. So CREEPY. I'm in love. Also, my vampire teeth ring, which is a little big... But that always happens when your biggest finger is barely a size five.. But since it's a two-finger ring it stays pretty well so I just deal with it. The jeans and sandals weren't my first choice for bottoms but today was unexpectedly warm, so the heels I had on in the morning just had to go, replaced by sandals. However, the warmth may have been a blessing in disguise because I was able to not wear a jacket all day, so my lovely ribcage never had to get covered up.

Let's All Be Closet Bloggers At Least Once

Yay... I've now officially joined the ranks of closet-bloggers. It was not a pre-meditated thing on my part, but rather a product of having no one to take pictures for me... See, at home, I take all my own pictures, but here, almost anywhere you go there are people. And it gets exceedingly awkward when not only are you toting around a tripod and a camera- an oddity as it is- but then you are using them to take pictures of yourself? Since I am a freshman and still a little shy around the people here, I really don't want to get a reputation as the crazy girl who's always taking pictures of herself (as I'm already known by the girls in my building...) But today when I was finished with class, there was no one in my suite as all my friends were still in class, and I'm still not feeling brave to go out to take pictures alone. So I hid in my room and chose to take pictures in my closet instead. And while I'm hanging about in my closet like a loon, why not show y'all a little map of where I stash my stuff? (You'll notice the tragically small area that is my closet... And yes, that all the space I have in the entire room for my clothes. I have most of my shoes under my roommate's bed- there's only room for four pairs in the closet.)

Now on to the outfit: It's warm today!! Not that I don't love the chilly weather and foggy skies, but warmth and sun means dresses! This green one is my favorite summer dress, not only because of the color but also the versatility. For a dressed down look I'll pair it with a pair of leather sandals and some sunglasses, or dress it up with nylons and a pair of booties. Today I chose to do the latter, if only because I haven't bothered to shave for a few days (it was raining, okay?!) and didn't particularly want to bare my bare legs to the world. I'm also a little in love with the necklace. I had seen one almost identical to it in a Free People catalog (that was two hundred dollars. *cough cough* NOT!) So I was kind of bummed that I couldn't get it- until I was in Target one day and spotted this little beauty. Not only did it resemble the one from FP quite strongly, but it was also on sale!! So I got it for only $20! Score for Erica!

The Story of a Ship That Sailed Around the World

I have a load of homework the size of a small whale and am utterly exhausted, so I'll make this short and sweet. Right now, I'm loving: teal nail polish, creme lace, and purple socks. Hence, today's outfit. Even though I was a little chilly throughout the day as the wind would blow through my lace sleeves. I desperately wanted to break out of the jeans and wear a dress today, but I ran out of time this morning when I was getting ready. So, perhaps I will find something cute for tomorrow. And tomorrow night is the launch party for my school's fashion magazine, which I hoping to work at. Fingers crossed! I'm sending in my application tomorrow....

If I Could, I'd Have a Pet Meerkat

I am just utterly exhausted today. But such is the life of the college student... My mom and brother came down to visit yesterday and we went to the zoo. On Friday I got this adorable owl shirt in the mail from Spotted Moth and couldn't wait to wear it. I know the rest of the outfit is rather basic, but one should avoid wearing anything particularly.. delicate when visiting the zoo. So I'm dressed more for function than fashion, but I'm still enamored with this shirt.

Night Wisps

Sometimes I just stumble across something that speaks to my very soul. I was bored, so I was looking at clothing in online stores that I can't afford (a great hobby of mine) when I stumbled across this gorgeous dress at The Olive Shoppe, a store I featured on here a few weeks back. It reminds me of Ophelia, drowning with flowers in her hair, and perhaps a fairy.

Featured: Spotted Moth

I have another new obsession: this adorable store called Spotted Moth. They have the cutest site and some of the most darling clothes I've seen in a while. And the best part? Every time you get a package in the mail from them, it has the sweetest wrapping like a package from the forty's. I just got a shirt from them that is totally adorable- pictures soon I hope! And I bought my friend a pair of vampire fang earrings that were irresistible- and a pair of sandal wedges that haven't come yet but that I'm praying will fit. So you should definitely check out the site!

Stropping Around in Rainboots

This is what I do while I am supposed to be writing a paper for PoliSci: I rush outside and take some pictures in the rain. And please note that the last picture is bad quality because my roommate refused to leave the room to take it, so there was a window screen between me and the camera... It was raining quite hard today, particularly for here. My hair was actually very curly this morning, but I got caught in the rain on my way back from lunch and the curls sort of melted. So tragic. But in order to stay dry I imposed a number of measures upon myself- the warm mittens, the ever-so-practical rainboots, and of course my handy raincoat which has saved my life multiple times despite the fact that I've only owned it since July. (I actually first bought it for my trip to Washington, and it didn't even rain while we were there!) Overall, though, I stayed relatively dry and warm during my treks across campus and looked quite chic in the process. Hehe.
