On a Blustery Day

It seems like every day here gets colder. Yesterday it was about fifty degrees at the warmest part of the day. I had to go out and run some errands- go to JoAnn's for craft supplies, Aaron Brothers for canvases, etc. So I bundled up, because I can't stand being cold. The fingerless gloves from Free People were one of my Christmas presents; I also got a pair of legwarmers that I'm waiting to debut with a pair of shoes I left at my dorm. I was very happy when I got them, because I usually struggle with mittens and gloves because I have very tiny hands and gloves/mittens tend to be big. But these fit better than I had anticipated, and will make a perfect addition to my collection of clothes that protect me from the cold weather that is a necessary part of my favorite part of the year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I know I'm a few days late, but better late than never, right? I know, I know, I'm always making excuses as to why I have not posted as often as I should, but the internet really is terrible here and it has taken me the better part of an hour to upload just the pictures for this Christmas post, let alone the outfit post I'm trying to get up, and getting pictures on Facebook. Sooooo fewer posts. Sorry! And it is especially tragic as I have happened to stumble on a number of little goodies lately, but alas I shall have to wait until I get back to my dorm for better internet. (The internet is the only thing about being at college that is preferable to being at home.)

We had a rather wonderful Christmas this year: and this coming from a girl who was expecting a less-than-ordinary day. I was not really looking forward to my gifts all that much; I thought I would know exactly what I was getting and there wouldn't be any surprise. Well, kudos to my mom for her complete cluelessness. Basically, the computer my mom was using to buy things from Amazon.com was already logged into my account, so she ended up accidentally raiding my wishlist and shopping bag and buying me all the stuff in there, somehow thinking it was off of my "official" wishlist. But however it happened, I'm very happy it did because I ended up getting a bunch of things that I wasn't expecting.

Walking Tall

I do just love being home, except for one small exception: the internet is abominable. It has taken me three days to get this posted because of how long it took to upload these tiny pictures to photobucket. And forget putting them on Facebook! Ah well. Perhaps I will go and visit my cousins later in the week, and take some pictures by the ocean and enjoy their faster internet. I have quite a few fun posts planned, so as long as my internet is cooperating I will try to post them in a timely manner.

Now on to the clothes: I've worn almost this exact outfit before (I just put a jacket on this time), but I really couldn't help it because I really loved the boots with the maroon tights, and the other dresses I could have worn it with are in my dorm room. (Curse living 600 miles from home...) I had a tall pair of boots before from Target, but lately they have been looking a bit worse for wear and been less comfortable when I wear them because they are simply so old. So I've been searching for replacement boots since September, and about a week ago I stumbled across these beauties on ShopRuche. They were quite reasonably priced and came in my size (a rarity) so I snatched them up immediately. They're really wonderful shoes- nice and tall so your legs stay very warm, not a big heel, and a zipper up the side so they're easy to get on and off. Now, I usually dress quite femininely, but I do enjoy the occasional rugged detail. But I don't enjoy clothes that are too boy-ish on me- I'm too short and thin to not just look like a twelve year old with long hair- so I paired the big, clunky boots with a soft, floral print dress.

Finals: Semi-Hiatus

That is my life, in picture form. It just makes me laugh every time I see it because it is so true! I mean, really, have you ever met someone who doesn't like at least one kind pie? No, you have not, because pie is perfect. And everyone loves it.

But the real purpose for my post is to apologize for not updating much in the past few weeks- I have been so incredibly busy with finals and transfer applications and projects, etc that I simply have not had time to manage my blog. Which makes me incredibly sad and I'm eagerly anticipating the day when I have time to update regularly. My last final is on Wednesday, so hopefully after that I will have time to update again. Thanks for your patience!!

And Broken Stars I Drew

Mine are the night and morning,
The pits of air, the gulf of space,
The sportive sun, the gibbous moon,
The innumerable days.

I hid in the solar glory,
I am dumb in the pealing song,
I rest on the pitch of the torrent,
In slumber I am strong.

No numbers have counted my tallies,
No tribes my house can fill,
I sit by the shining Fount of Life,
And pour the deluge still;

And ever by delicate powers
Gathering along the centuries
From race on race the rarest flowers,
My wreath shall nothing miss.

And many a thousand summers
My apples ripened well,
And light from meliorating stars
With firmer glory fell.

I wrote the past in characters
Of rock and fire the scroll,
The building in the coral sea,
The planting of the coal.

And thefts from satellites and rings
And broken stars I drew,
And out of spent and aged things
I formed the world anew;

What time the gods kept carnival,
Tricked out in star and flower,
And in cramp elf and saurian forms
They swathed their too much power.

Between the Woods and the Frozen Lake

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Sequins & Velvet

More of my obsessions for this season:

Aren't these shoes just the most darling things? They make me want to cuddle up with some small, fluffy puppy and a cup of hot chocolate in front of a fireplace. And they remind me quite strongly of the Little Princess (if you've seen it...)

All from Modcloth

Freshly Furrowed Fields

It really is wonderful to have been back home, if only for a few days. Thankfully I'll be going back in about a week, although I really don't know how I'll bring myself to return to the awful dining hall food at school after I've spoiled with delicious home-cooking. So here are some pretty, pretty pictures from the ranch. Be expecting lovely pictures almost every day when I return there for Christmas break, because I just adore taking pictures there. There really isn't a part that isn't beautiful, particularly in the winter when it has been raining and the whole ranch is green.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

a

I'm a terrible girl and have not posted for so very long!! I do have legitimate reasons for my hiatus though: my internet at home is abominable, and then when I got back to school where the internet worked, I was bombarded with a million and one things to get done. I have been thinking of transferring from the college I'm attending at the moment, and my transfer application was due last night. Sooooo I am now finished with all that nonsense and may get back to taking care of my business on here.

I got home on Tuesday night, and spent almost all of Wednesday making a ton of pies. I made the crusts for four pumpkin pies, made an entire apple pie (my specialty), and a special crust for our cherry pie: a regular crust underneath and little maple leaves cut out of pie dough over the top. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap a picture of the cherry pie before it was eaten. Ah well. On Wednesday night we drove up and got my cousin from her college and brought her back to my house (which I was quite happy about, because she and I are very close and I've missed her terribly since we are so far away at college).

Thursday was lovely, filled with delicious food and board games (I won both games, as noted below. Yay!) Appropriately, I chose to wear my Pumpkin Pie dress from Spotted Moth on Thanksgiving; I think this may become a tradition. I think I might practically be required to wear it, considering both its color and its name. All in all, a delightful day in which I ate more food than can possibly be healthy.

On Friday we mostly lazed around in the morning until I dragged Jessie out to take pictures (next post!), and then we went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One in IMAX. I'd already seen it twice (at the midnight premiere and again over the weekend) but I really don't believe I'll ever get tired of it. Then on Saturday we went into the city to see the new wing our local art museum had opened, and it was quite impressive. Modern art museums can often go very wrong, but I really enjoyed the collection they had on display. And on Sunday I headed back to school, to deal with all the stuff I outlined earlier.

We played Sorry. I won. (See the yellow all in Home? That's me.) I also won at Life. It was a good night.
