Meet Me On the Equinox

Brrrr! It was quite chilly this morning, although it's warmed up now it's afternoon. I'm more than a little sleep-deprived again today (as I've been for the past three or four days) because the boys in the room on the floor above ours insist on blasting music and
exercising until two in the morning. Yes, that's right, you read exercising. Believe me, you can hear EVERYthing, including them falling down and crashing into things when they're drunk on the weekends. Most of the time it's quite amusing, but now it's starting to interrupt my sleeping schedule. I've only got morning classes, so I have to go to sleep relatively early, not at two am. I went upstairs to confront them earlier- that is, ask them politely to stop- but they weren't there. So I shall have to try another time.

So today I'm debuting some shoes that came in the mail yesterday, a pair of suede Nine West booties that I'm really loving. Something about the texture or color is just so wintry. I noticed last night that I only have one pair of shoes that is not neutral-toned, but it isn't because I don't love colored shoes. On the contrary, in fact, the more color the better. Unfortunately, when you are a college freshman with a closet the size of a shoebox and room for four pairs of shoes, you have to go with essentials. Perhaps in a few years when I can get myself a decently sized closet, I shall begin to invest in, shall we call them specialty shoes. Shoes in fun colors that perhaps do not go with everything, but are darling nonetheless. But for now, I think I'll stick to neutrals.

Won't Set My Heart Frozen In Amber

Weight of days lost holding you down
You'll look for me, but I won't be found.
The bluebirds flutter in my chest,
Oh, they want to sing..
You'll have to break me open to hear anything
Before the world dies at my door
I'll break the sky, for you and I are going nowhere.
Kiss goodbye, a dozen times before we get there.
Why do I need anyone else, when I can break the sky myself?
Won't be haunted by dreams I've deferred
Won't set my heart frozen in amber
The love you always seem to find is syrupy sweet
One taste and you've made up your mind,
Too ripe to eat.

-The Hush Sound

I just realized when I posted these pictures that none of them actually have my face in them... whoops. I think I just didn't like any of the pictures showing my whole face (not enough sleep last night, perhaps?)

I just love these pictures, even if they don't show my face. Mostly because of my skirt. Not trying to sound narcissistic or anything, but I made it myself. I have a few things in my wardrobe that I have actually made myself (far too few in my opinion- I would make so many more things if I had the time and money). And then to pair the adorable bubble skirt with what may quite possibly the world's cutest cardigan? Sometime later, when I wear it again, I must remember to take a detail picture of the buttons- they are just darling.

The Little Ballerina

I just happened to stumble across this enchanting video a few moments ago. With the soft musicbox piano tinkling and the blurry motion, it is all very ethereal and fairy-like. I'm quite at a loss for words. It is just beautiful.

Bundled Up In Ruffles

I can't be the only girl in the world who goes coat-wild when November arrives. It seems that all I've done lately is browse the outerwear category of every online store I can think of. Unfortunately, my tastes have grown significantly more expensive over the years, so I find myself unable to afford a huge majority of what I would like to own. I'm also held back by my extremely small frame... At 5'1" I am hardly average-sized. So getting clothes that don't drown me in fabric is difficult. Anywho, despite my monetary and bodily drawbacks, I still enjoy a good browsing of the coat section. So here's my picks for this season (if I could afford them):

Why Yes, Mr. Diamond, I Do Enjoy Almonds

BoredBoredBored. I'm sitting up here on my bunk bed and working on an essay for my culture class about the origins of agriculture, relying on Neil Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel. Not exactly the most scintillating subject matter, but that's what I'm up to. It's a lovely breezy day outside and the sun is shining, yet I am cooped up inside with articles on the evolution of farming techniques. Oh, college, how I love you. So, since I am bored out of my mind I'm taking a little break and posting some silly pictures I took with my webcam. (I know, I know, I should be working... But I am so easily distracted!)

Like A Dancer

So here's a fun little tidbit for you: I'm a dancer (or was until about six months ago.) I do ballet, and I started dancing when I was three years old. I've always been very attracted to clothes that remind of anything balletic, so one of my favorite things to do in the winter is to pair a pair of lovely heels with some legwarmers. Unfortunately, I didn't bring any of my regular heels with me (that is, heels that aren't bootie-like), so I shall have to wait until after I get back from Thanksgiving to try this out.

But now I've got to find those darling dark silver glittery heels!!

Cut All the Ropes and Let Me Fall

Eghhhh. Nasty day. I'm sorry that I haven't posted any outfits as of late; last week was midterms, this week I'm just plain exhausted. And I'n starting to get fed up with my hellish little room and the disgusting food here, which combined have put me in a rather foul mood. So I'm keeping this short, though perhaps not sweet. I know this outfit isn't one of my most creative or anything, but it took me about three minutes to come up with and throw on, so I guess it's got that going for it.

Bags Full Of Leaves Are Light As Balloons

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.
I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.
But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.
I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?
Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.
Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is a crop,
And who's to say where
The harvest shall stop?

Slipping Through My Fingers and Into Another's

When I get bored on Sundays, I enjoy torturing myself by browsing the Free People website and drooling at clothing which I will never own. (Ah, the joys of being an utterly middle-class and perpetually broke college student...) But, I find Free People's winter collection to be one of the warmest, fuzziest, and altogether most lovable collection I've seen in years. If I could afford them, this is what I would buy:

I actually tried this sweater on when I was in a Free People boutique- it's even more lovely in person. Incredibly soft and beautiful colors. It reminds of the seventies very strongly, like something I would wear while curled up in a window seat somewhere, sipping a cup of hot tea.

I've always loved peacocks, and dark tights.

I love the dusky, muted color it (lilac is one my favorite wardrobe staples). Also, in the catalog they had placed other dresses over the top, and let the uneven hem show underneath- something I'd love to try.

It's a velvet military jacket?! I love anything that looks like it comes from the 18th century, and I'm on a velvet kick this winter. I'm absolutely enthralled. And I love the cut.

Did I mention velvet? And satin ribbons? In CRANBERRY??!! These might possibly the most darling Christmas shoes I have ever laid eyes on.

Loving the texture. Anything dark with a pattern like this stands out wonderfully against my exceptionally pale skin and looks exquisite. I also love swishy skirts.

So Free People has come up with these things called "bralettes" which are long bras that you wear outside your clothing. I already own a corset, and I do just love wearing underwear as outerwear.

Doesn't everyone need a little pair of fingerless mittens? Especially ones that remind me oatmeal with cranberries.

I swear I never aged past the age of five. I just adore rainbow color schemes (which other people tend to.... not like so much.) So not only does this scarf look like it was woven by some lovely little woodland fairy, but it also looks like a little kitten of softness.

And more rainbow.... But a little brighter. I like to warm up cooler winter tones with a bright scarf.

I think every girl needs a good pair of clogs in her wardrobe.

This one's a two-fer: I'm loving both the shoes and the legwarmers. I have some similar, but they're light creme and these have that lovely oatmeal tint of which I am so fond this season. As for the shoes, I just bought a pair from Spotted Moth that are a very similar color and they go with EVERYTHING. Plus, I'm a sucker for anything with a wedge and laces.

So here we have a combination of ice blue and creme, which is quite possibly my favorite winter combination of all time. It's like wearing a snowflake.

They look like carpetbags! And as anyone who loves Mary Poppins knows, carpetbags are rather magical.

I suppose with these, it must be the combination of the lovely warm pumpkin-y color and suede.

And last: these whimsical little legwarmers. More oatmeal, yes, and more rainbows. So predictable, I'm afraid.
